Alertness and Sensibility

What the coronavirus has done is that it has exposed and shown us who we really are. Sometimes not always our ideal images of ourselves. From toilet paper hoarding to mass gatherings in public, there are quite a few areas we could improve on. We have also seen quite a few cases of inefficiencies and stuff-ups from the public sectors around the globe. The list goes on.

I am not trying to be cynical here. But I think the virus has revealed all our vulnerabilities at once. I don’t think it’s necessarily just a matter of human incompetence or evilness. It’s probably more because we lack certain alertness and sensitivity. We have gotten so used to our way of life that we have nullified our senses. We are so used to the conveniences modern lifestyle has provided us that we take many things for granted. When was the last time we stopped everything we’re doing and really pondered deeply about something? When was the last time we really felt something at a deep level? We basically have access to everything now with the touch of a button that our senses don’t really need to be activated anymore.

It is the perfect time to come back to our senses. Spirituality is about finding the alertness that we all inherently have and brush up our sensibility so that we can feel better. This is a tough time for many, but it is also a perfect time to find the qualities that make us who we really are.
