In this video, the great spiritual teacher Mooji talks about the secret of managing the chattering mind. The message is extremely simple, it’s not even a secret, don’t engage with the mind. But Mooji has the ability to deliver simple messages and turn them into profound pointers for those feeling perplexed.
Mind Chatter
In the video, Mooji speaks about the mind that loves to chatter, often, it means questioning everything. Some familiar questions might include ‘What if it doesn’t work out?’, ‘What if this or that happens?’, ‘Why did he say that? I didn’t do anything wrong.’, ‘Why does it always happen to me?’ I think you know that the list really has no end.
Source Of Our Problems
It’s probably fair to say that our mind is the source of most of our problems. Yes, real life challenges are already difficult to deal with. But our mind has the ability to magnify the existing problem into a much bigger problem. It makes sense to turn this additional mind commentary off. We simply don’t want to add fuel to the fire. The question is, how do you turn this off? Can we really just disengage from our mind chatter?
Don’t Engage
Well, you can. Mooji says it’s simply a matter of not giving attention to the mind. Let the chatter be, it will recede before you realise. Our natural state is calm and quiet. All we need to do is to bring our attention back to the quietness. If our mind wanders, just remind ourselves of how calm our natural state actually is. Don’t give in to the mind chatter. We should do this as often as we need to. The result is pretty immediate, we don’t need to spend months practising something strenuous. It’s that simple. If you watched the video, you would know what I mean.
Our mind is capable of many great things. But it is also the source of many of our stress we experience. Bringing our attention back to our natural state is a really simple practice to counter the mind chatter. It might be difficult for some people depending on how active one’s mind is. But the important thing is to remind ourselves as often as possible, when required. The good news is, progress will become evident a lot sooner than you realise.
