We probably all want the same thing. Whether it’s acquiring the latest car, saving money to buy a house, or setting goals in order to achieve something we’ve always wanted to achieve, we believe that accomplishing all these goals would make us feel good. In other words, we all seek happiness one way or the other. How do most people go about attaining happiness? We focus a lot on external factors, the action, the planning and setting goals. But what about the internal aspects of happiness?
While planning and having goals are great, we don’t always follow through. How often do we hear that people give up on their New Year’s resolution? Probably too often. What if there is simple and fast approach to getting closer to happiness? So fast that it can be done right now. It would probably require some practice to become good at it, but it can be done right away. The trick is to make ‘being happy now’ our primary goal. We simply ask ourselves questions such as, ‘is this going to make me happy?’, ‘how am I feeling right now?’ When we are happy in the present moment, all our thoughts and actions will also align in a harmonious way. Being happy right now is the key to achieving great things.
Being happy doesn’t necessarily mean that we need some kind of external stimulation or having met certain criteria. It simply is as simple as asking ourselves a question. It is like carrying a mirror which serves as a reminder and barometer for our level of happiness at any moment. By simply being aware of our happiness, we are closer to being happy.
Different people come up with different ways and ideas to seek happiness, but the essence of happiness is the same. It’s basically a sensation we are after, some may have a more profound experience while some may have a more short-lived sensation. The important thing is we do it right away, ‘are we feeling happy right now?’
