It’s Hard to Give Up

There are many things we take for granted. Only when we lose them, do we begin to value them. Who would have thought it would be this hard to purchase a roll of toilet paper? Who would have thought our freedom to travel could be gone just like that, especially in this day and age? We could hardly even step out of our houses nowadays. All these privileges could be taken away from us just like that.

But I am by no means complaining. These are necessary measures we need to adhere to in times like these. But when these basic privileges are taken away from us, we feel uncomfortable and vulnerable. It is very hard to give up these freedoms we have been enjoying, at least in the developed world. Simple acts such as wandering in the streets or interacting with a group of friends seems not so easy to attain now.

As difficult as things are, this is actually a great time to re-evaluate the things we have taken for granted and appreciate the value these privileges provide us. It may be difficult to do, but it is a very important practice spiritually. It is also a good time to cultivate a sense of gratitude. When else would we really have time to slow down and reflect on such things anyway?
