Living A Life Of Non-Resistance

Have you ever felt that the more you resist something the stronger it gets? Whatever that ‘something’ may be. It could be a situation, a person, a thing, an event, or something imagined. It’s never easy to deal with challenges and difficulties. As a way to counter that, we often resist. Resisting doesn’t mean that we fight against it, it could simply mean that we don’t accept it in our heart. It could be a quiet resistance. Whatever the situation may be, we simply don’t (want to) accept it.

Non-Resistance Is About Allowing

Non-resistance, on the other hand, is about accepting and allowing. We simply accept what has happened and we find a way to live with it. We allow things to happen. This doesn’t mean that we don’t do anything at all about a situation. We will still do whatever is necessary in the given situation. But we don’t want to react to it. We don’t want to add more to the situation. We don’t want to let it get into our heads and create some sort of inner chaos.

Non-Resistance Is Very Powerful

Non-resistance is actually very powerful. It is one of the most powerful ways to live our lives. Many spiritual teachers talked about this. From ancient Lao Tzu to modern day Abraham Hicks or Eckhart Tolle. All have acknowledged the profound power non-resistance can bring. When we are not conflicted inside, we feel more relaxed and this is when we start to look for ways and gather resources to improve the situation.

Practise, Practise And Practise

It’s of course easier said than done. In many life situations, the challenges can be overwhelming and it’s impossible to simply be non-resistant. So how can we become better at non-resistance and make it a part of our life? Well, we simply practise. By practising non-resistance as much as possible, we get into the habit of not focusing on problems so much but more on solutions. We don’t want to spend too much time on the problem itself by arguing with people or not accepting the reality. Ideally we want to be in the problem-solving mode.

Just like with any other practice, we don’t want to be too perfect in the beginning. Anything small is good enough. A little step goes a long way and every little step counts. As long as we stay alert and conscious about non-resistance, we will get better at it.
