Emotion is a natural occurrence. We are human, we feel, we react. When we view things, we often view them through our perspectives. It’s like a filter, through which we form our perspectives. Everyone has his or her own filter, their way of interpreting things. This filter is often loaded with emotions. These emotions define us. Behind the emotions lie our histories, experiences and various other related emotions.
Emotion Interferes With Communication
So the world is full of emotions. Where there are people, there are emotions. The problem with this is that people can’t really connect with one another. Communication gets clouded. There are too many perspectives and there is no judge to decide who is right and who is wrong. Everyone is right and everyone is wrong depending on the perspective, or the filter you use.
Emotion Stops You From Seeing The Truth
Another problem is that one tends to not see things for what they are. You can’t get to the truth if you are clouded by emotions. Understanding something fully requires a great deal of clarity. Emotions also come with false judgement. It’s easy to get lost in the process of understanding something.
What Do We Do?
So what do we do with our emotions? Well, we let them happen. Realise that they exist and look beyond them. Understand that they are like filters that block our vision so all we need to do is remove them or look pass them. Whether it’s communicating our ideas or understanding a problem, if we can remove the emotion, we would be in a much better position to achieve what we want.
Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions.
Elizabeth Gilbert
Humans are emotional beings. We don’t need to deny this fact. But we can learn about it and come up with better approaches to get more clarity. One of the best ways is to take the emotion out of it. Writer Elizabeth Gilbert said it perfectly, “Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions.”
