Unplug From A World Full Of Stories

Sometimes it’s really easy to lose track of where you are and get lost in a story. We live in a world full of stories, some wonderful, some horrible or anything in between. It’s even easier to follow stories in a world where social media dominate our daily lives. There are so many fascinating stories at any given moment. Right now, there is the pandemic story, the US election story, the social unrest story, the economic story and many many more. All of these stories have sub-stories and can branch out in hundreds of ways. All of them keep us occupied on a daily basis.

However it can get very tricky. Many stories don’t turn out the way we want them to turn out and we can very easily feel distracted at best and depressed at worst. It makes sense to unplug ourselves from these narratives that have become such a big part of our lives. We certainly don’t want to get too caught up and lose ourselves in them which we have no control over. So how do we unplug and unfollow unwanted stories? We can do that by simply reminding ourselves who we really are.

We are not who we think we are. These stories all involve characters and personalities that are really played by temporary actors. We are more than that. In spiritual words, we are any or all of the following, consciousness, presence, awareness, the source, the universe and so on. These may sound abstract and vague, but it’s the essence that matters, not the words. Terminology only serves as a guide. Essentially, when we get rid of all the stories we hear or the stories we tell ourselves, we become our true selves. This true self is free from stories therefore free from suffering.
